Examples of gender-neutral language in the CORPES XXI and METAPRES

Gender-neutral language is a linguistic tool that aims at promoting the inclusion of all social groups without sex or gender-identity based discrimination. However, its inclusion in the daily usage of the Spanish language encounters on a regular basis opponents and resistance. As a matter of fact, it is possible to find features in the language that, used under specific circumstances, might prove to be sexist, nevertheless, the Real Academia Española is reluctant to include gender-neutral techniques to the language norm. This work aims at analyzing the presence of two different gender-neutral techniques in two corpora dedicated to current Spanish, CORPES XXI and METAPRES, in order to verify the actual inclusion of these techniques in the language of the 21st century.
